A Season of Change
Fall is a time for transitions, and while the change of season is subtle in San Diego, I see evidence of it all around me, particularly in my travels. It reminds me that nature can provide us with a great deal of wisdom to embrace our transitions.
Acknowledging Our Impatience
When change is in the air, most of us want things to happen quickly. We want the new job right away. We want the house to sell immediately. We want our visions for our future to manifest overnight.
That’s not the way it happens.
When summer moves into fall, the leaves don’t burst into a wash of orange, gold, and red from one day to the next. First, one leaf will begin to transform from a shade of pale green, to a light yellow, and then into the color it was meant to become in its final stage of evolution.
The same can be said of all those projects, desires, and visions we have for our own lives. They will come to pass if we put our faith and trust in, not only the process, but in our own determination and perseverance to make it so.
In The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are, Brené Brown said, “Faith is a place of mystery, where we find the courage to believe in what we cannot see and the strength to let go of our fear of uncertainty.”
With any transition or change, there is uncertainty. We don’t know exactly when that book will be completed. We are often unsure of the effects of management changes. We often don’t know how long a project will really take despite all of our projections. Many times we are met with surprises. If we can trust that those surprises are in our best interest, we can ride out the changes with a bit more grace than if we fretted our days away.
The Key to Transition
The key to riding through life with grace is to embrace one moment at a time, one strategic action at a time, and trust that our end goal will come to pass.
Right now, my business is in another transition, one that began with the publication of Jungle: A Journey to Peace, Purpose, and Freedom a few months ago.
Knowing that the message contained within the pages can help so many individuals, teams, and companies, I am expanding the vision of my own company. My team is growing, as is our list of projects. Sometimes it’s head spinning, and yes, there are times when I wish we’d be further along in creating a workbook, building the online course, and much more.
However, I know that even if I’m uncertain about some of the whens or the hows, I trust in myself and in my team to make things happen.
Your Reaction to Change
Before I leave you for this week, I ask you to consider how you respond to change.
- Do you embrace change with a sense of adventure?
- Do you fret about every little detail?
- Does it paralyze you from taking action?
- Or do you get sucked into sadness because another moment of life is moving away––and perhaps rightfully so?
Let me know what you’re feeling.
P.S. I frequently post on my Facebook page inspirations, realizations, and insights I have during my day-to-day adventures. Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/cindyhensonjungle/ I invite you to Like my page to ensure that you are notified of my updates.
