Discover What Juices You and Pursue It!
It’s hard to believe that summer is here! Time does fly when you’re having fun.
As I mentioned last week, I’ll be covering my Jungle principles over the next few weeks. Sharing my knowledge and wisdom (hard earned in many cases) is fun for me. The way I see it, if I can use my experiences to better someone else’s life, then I’m living my passion and fulfilling my mission.
Last week, I covered Jungle Principle #2, Resolve Past Issues and Release Your Brain Power! Here, I encouraged you to look around your life and address those issues that were tripping you up.
This week, we’re onto Jungle Principle #3, Discover What Juices You and Pursue It! I truly believe that we’re all here to do something meaningful with our lives. And when we’re juiced, that’s a good indicator that we’re right on track. We’ve found our North Star.
In my book, Jungle: A Journey to Peace, Purpose, and Freedom, I wrote:
“Life becomes much more meaningful and enjoyable when we are engaged in activities that are important to us. It brings focus and clarity to our priorities. We know when to say ‘yes’ and more importantly, when to say ‘no’ to requests made of us. By inquiring of ourselves the source of a smile, a jig down a hallway, and a belly laugh, and what fills our well, and what brings us ultimate joy, we find our North Star, which keeps us on course as we discover and live our life’s purpose.”
Our lives are a blank canvas. We get to innovate and create the life we want to live––and the best way to do that is to say “no” to those things that aren’t in Jim Bunch’s words, a “Hell Yes!” Too many times, we fill our days with tasks and responsibilities that just aren’t ours to do. We’d be better off delegating those items that we can’t do whole-heartedly than doing them half-heartedly and perhaps not as well.
After spending a year in Costa Rica on the heels of an illness that almost killed me, I reinvented myself and my life. I returned to San Diego, formed my business, and began offering my services to corporations and municipalities. Not only did I have years of project management experience in the IT world, I possessed an incredible amount of wisdom I had acquired over the years––of what to do and what not to do to live a happy, fulfilled life––and I wanted to share it.
During my reinvention phase, I chose to do only those things that really juiced me––that put a spark in my soul. Writing blogs like these, facilitating workshops for teams and organizations, and traveling around the world gathering more experiences to share are just some of the things that lights the fire of enthusiasm within me. I’d love to see you do the same.
I invite you to take fifteen minutes after reading this blog and write down the top ten things that juice you. Then make a list of the top ten things you need to say “no” to.
As Thoreau says, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams and live the life you have imagined.”
I give you permission. Let me know what you discover.
